If you ask a prosecutor about their caseloads and workload, they often don’t have exact numbers, but they know they are overwhelmed. Prosecutor caseloads are difficult to measure because every case is not equal – a homicide prosecutor may only handle five cases a year while a misdemeanor attorney could handle hundreds . But that means that prosecutors often don’t have good data for their funders, can’t quantify staffing needs and don’t have a good basis for management decisions. If this is your experience, PCE can help with an evidence-based caseload/workload study.

What We do

Through a series of interviews and data analysis, our team of experts can help you determine caseload and workload levels in your office, and how to better optimize them. In doing so, we can help you get in a position to ask for additional funding, if appropriate, and, ultimately, facilitate a better-performing office.

Our Work In Action - Conducting a Caseload Study

PCE and a researcher are working with prosecutors across Washington State on a caseload and workload study, with the goal of keeping up with the demands of modern prosecution. Our work is ongoing on this matter and a report will be issued when the process concludes.
